I've got a '99 Miata with only about 21K miles on it. It's green with leather, custom wheels and tires, great condition. Only problem is that it needs a fuel pump. I'm going to need to sell it due to financial issues- either it gets the fuel pump and gets sold or sits in my driveway unfixed since I can't afford the repair. Any suggestions on selling? Should I put out an ad, take it to Carmax? I've never sold a car before so I'm not certain how to go about this- what about asking price- what are these suckers going for these days? Any suggestions are appreciated. Also, any suggestions on where to get the fuel pump done? The dealership quoted almost $900!

I would without a doubt shop around on the fuel pump also!

there is a place called AML (American Mobile Lube) off of Arville and Flamingo

they guys who run the shop are named Dan and Mike

They looked at my fuel pump on my old buick and not only quoted me a price at half what another shop wanted, but actually ended up just needing to flush out the fuel injection system and changing the filter. on my buick (with the pump in the tank, not sure if it is the same on the miata but figure it must be at the price you mention) it would have been between 300-400 bucks

Also if they cant help, I would say call Goodyear. They are who I always take my vehicles to and they have always been honest with me.

I usually go to the one near Meadows mall, I am not sure if all of their locations are as reliable.

Without a doubt call around and explain your situation to get some quotes before dropping 900 on it... whether you sell it or not, save yourself some cash if you can.

Thank you for your responses. I will add pictures once I get the car back from Mazda. I'd had it towed in- when it wouldn't start I thought it was just the battery however they called and told me it was the fuel pump. I didn't authorize the work cuz $900 sounded like WAYYYYY too much. It the meantime it's been sitting there while I make up my mind as to what to do.

OMG.. a 99' with 21k on it? stay away from carmax. you wont get crap for the car. that year with such low mileage can still sell for $9-10k easily. So..i would post up an ad on www.miata.net. There you will get top dollar for such a near mint car. Hell..if i didnt have my 97', I would hop all over this.

If you want you can get the fuel pump and i can get it done for hella cheap, just get the pump for me. It would take me overnight to get it done though over the weekend. I help you and you help me for drift events  Grin. Also check the fuel pump relay just in case? another note same issue happened to my buddy and came to be his crank angle sensor?
